#10 Freezing Friday

Long Time No See

As the headline already states, it has been quite some time since I last posted on this blog.
Please forgive me though, a lot has happened since my last post and I haven't found the time nor the will to continue posting updates. However, now on a sunny Monday afternoon, I have decided to upload something new after such a long time: a post on skiing!

As some of you know, I used to go skiing with my family during the Christmas holidays in Switzerland (Engadin). Unfortunately, we haven't been there in a long time but luckily for me Oslo provides several options to go skiing. After Jonas returned from his outdoor committee trip, where he went skiing for the very first time, he announced to us that he was on fire and wanted to go skiing again that same week. Naturally, me and Clemens, as experienced skiers, agreed and Max, who has never been skiing before, also decided to come with us. We rented out skies from BUA for free and made our way to "Oslo Vinterpark" on a misty Friday morning. While renting skies is free in Oslo in some places, the entry fee for the actual park is expensive, but fortunately, Friday is half price for students!!

The way to the winter park was long and dreadful with all our equipment hanging around our necks, and arms. It took us over an hour from our student housing to get there, but it was all worth it in the end! Since Max had no experience on skies and Jonas only had one class, we started our day on the "Baby slope". It was a good way for the boys to get into the groove of skiing, but it was equally important for me (and for Clemens) to start out small, since we haven't gone skiing in forever and needed to find our way back into it, too. Luckily all my "skill" from the previous years was still existent and I was soon able to easily ski down the slopes. After a couple of tries we proceeded to ski down the green slopes (easiest after the baby slope) and made our way all the way to the red slopes. Max and Jonas both did an amazing job and I would say skiing comes naturally to them!!!

We went to get lunch at this diner thing down by the only black slope and got us some "very healthy" Hamburgers with Fries and a soft drink. After warming up for a little while longer we decided to hit the slopes for another round of skiing before it finally got dark at around 5pm.
Unfortunately, the weather had been very misty and cloudy all day, with the sun only coming through the clouds every once in a while. Once it got dark, those circumstances made it even harder to see the slope conditions and we soon decided to make our way back home.

Even though the weather could have been a lot nicer and the park could have been a lot bigger in terms of slope varieties, we had an amazing day skiing and enjoying some full on snow for once.
