Freundinnen Krüsselkrams in Oslo
Hello again!
Even though this post is dated early April, the events described have actually taken place on the second weekend of March - 7th until 9th of March to be precise.
With a kind of short notice and last minute (week) rescheduling on my side, Ebru and Fetu (aka Feride) from Delta-Sport office have come to visit me in Oslo!
Very exciting times!
Due to work issues they arrived on Saturday and didn't think to let me know the time, until very last minute when they were already sitting on the plane to Oslo.. Naturally, I wasn't at the main train station in time to pick them up and they had to have a nice little talk with a (as we later discovered) German speaking man. He didn't even know Ebru and Fetu spoke German until I arrived, because they constantly switched back and forth between German and Turkish (where they/their families are from) - no surprise here, we all know it from our office coffee breaks!
We made our way back to my place via train and they moved in on their new (airmattress-)bed for the next two nights. As they have told me, it was apparently quite comfortable. Fetu even had the pleasure of sleeping in one of our own "Delta-Sport Summer sleeping bags", which was also OK, but a bit cold since it wasn't really summer in Oslo.
Since the weather was quite nice, and it was supposed to get worse on Sunday, we quickly got up and took the subway back into town to do
some sightseeing. It was quite late and we couldn't see the inside of the town hall which Ebru had done lots of research about beforehand. Generally speaking, Ebru had seen pretty much
ALL of the sights, streets and buildings we walked by on her internet research or Oslo's Instagram
"VisitOslo". We visited Aker Brygge and walked all the way to the Opera House, where it was very windy and cold, but still beautiful. Later on we met up with the German boys Jonas, Max and Clemens to go to the
Oslo Streetfood Market - a place similar to the foodcourt at Europapassage, but better and.. well Oslo prices. After Ebru and Fetu recovered from the
"one beer is 10 € shock" we had a pretty fun night with music and laughter until we had to leave to go grocery shopping (which I hadn't managed to do beforehand but also wanted to do it with the girls, to get what they liked to eat). Apart from the girls having
another small heart attack when seeing how much we spent on just a few things and it raining the whole way back to my place, grocery shopping went well - we even got some sweets from the lollie bar.
Due to the extensive sightseeing on that day, we were all very tired and didn't manage to go out to a bar or club, but instead stayed at BSN and hung out with some of my friends in their kitchen.
On Sunday we
woke up late, had an extensive breakfast and left BSN quite late to go to the
Munch Museum (Ebru had read all about). To our demise, they had already packed up "The Scream" for their move to the new building, so we couldn't see it. Ebru even wore her "The Scream" socks. :(
Instead, we spent 15min picking out the right postcards to take home as a souvenir and went street art hunting in the area around the museum afterwards. Oslo, and that part of the city - Toyen - are trying to become one of the
biggest outdoor street art places in the world. And they indeed had lots of murals and graffiti on the walls. For lunch we made our way to the "
Marthallen" where we found the cutest little pastry shop and couldn't resist getting dessert at afterwards - despite the prices. We went on another "fun" adventure trying to find more street art, but ended up at the other side of the town.
Later that night we went to
the Irish Pub downtown for some drinks. Max, Clemens and Jonas joined and we had a fun last night trying out different beers from the tab. Seeing as beer is very expensive, you'd normally only get one or two when going to a bar. However, this pub had the offer to try four beers of 100ml each meaning we could try a couple different ones.
Monday came around way too fast and it was time for Fetu and Ebru to leave for the airport. Before going to the train station we did a little detour and got
BIT Union's amazing buns (cinnamon, custard, berries, vanilla or chocolate).
